Abstract:
Interview conducted by Dale Treleven of the Historical Society staff with Jack Kyle concerning his youth on a Rock County, Wisconsin farm, his experiences in the Progressive Party, the La Follettes and other state political leaders, the Wisconsin Labor Relations Board, and his work as executive secretary of the Wisconsin Association of Cooperatives. Kyle discusses his early background, education, and politics; the role of farmers and other rural people in the Progressive wing of the Republican Party; agricultural leaders such as Erich Lenz; farm organization politics; relationships with the Wisconsin labor movement; his work with Congressman Thomas Amlie, 1928-1932, Senator F. Ryan Duffy, Philip La Follette, Robert La Follette, Jr., and Congressman George Schneider; the Progressive Party, 1937-1946; the primary senate election of 1946; the influence on Kyle of Jerry Voorhis of California; and the Wisconsin Association of Cooperatives, 1948-1962.
