Abstract:
This collection covers the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) related activities of the Office of Compliance from 1991 to 2008. The Office of Compliance promotes adherence to the ADA and aids students, faculty, and staff in filing an appeal of a reasonable accommodation denial or reporting an accessibility barrier. The collection includes policies, reports, meeting minutes, surveys, and correspondence. The policies cover a variety of facets of the implementation of the ADA including student assessment, co-curricular interpreting, faculty accommodations, grievance procedures, accommodation requests, parking, and more. The reports include self evaluations, a 1992 ADA transition plan, reports on the activities of the Committee on Access and Accommodation in Instruction, and reports from the Access and Usability Committee. The meeting minutes document the activities of the Committee on Access and Accommodation in Instruction, the Access and Usability Committee, Divisional Disability Representatives, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Task Force. The Committee on Access and Accommodation in Instruction (formerly the Chancellor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities) focuses on academic accommodations in the classroom, while employee and non academic accessibility issues such as information technology, facilities, and transportation are addressed by the ADA Task Force. The bulk of the correspondence deals with the activities of these committees or grievances against the university by disabled students.
