Earthwatch Radio was an award-winning daily 2-minute program about the environment. Every two weeks, 10 programs were written, edited, and produced by students and staff at the Sea Grant Institute and the Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and sent out to over 150 radio stations in the United States and Canada. Created in the wake of the first Earth Day and inspired by former Wisconsin Governor Gaylord Nelson, Earthwatch Radio began in 1972 and was the first radio program in the nation to concentrate on environmental issues as well as the longest running program of its kind when it ended in 2007. The show often covered issues affecting the Great Lakes and the state of WIsconsin. Common topical categories include weather, air, land, life, and energy.
