This collection contains the papers of
Joyce Becker, who served as an academic staff member at UW-Madison for nearly forty years.
Becker was hired to work in the lab of Dr. Harold Rusch in 1959 and retired from
UW-Madison's Environmental Toxicology Center in 1997. This collection holds documents
related to Becker's work on academic staff committees in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly
the Academic Staff Advisory Committee (ASAC), the UW Doctoral Cluster Task Force, the
Committee on Women in Health Sciences, and the Committee on Employment and Promotion of
Non-Faculty Academic Staff. Materials from these committees include reports, employment
statistics from UW-Madison, data and surveys about the gender composition of employees in
different job roles, drafts of reports written by Becker, Becker's handwritten notes, drafts
of university policies related to academic staff, and correspondence with the university
administration.
