This collection consists of the records of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars (VFW) Brown Deer Memorial Post 8099. Included are business and activity
records, photographs, news clippings, correspondence, and memorabilia documenting the
members' commitment to serve within their community. The post's activities included
bell-ringing for the Salvation Army, sponsoring scholarships at Brown Deer Middle and High
Schools, volunteering at the local veterans medical center, selling VFW Poppies, and
marching in Brown Deer's 4th of July Parade. Over the years, they also donated MIA/POW and
American flags to the community. The "White Hat Papers" included in the collection were sent
into the "All-State Post Commanders" competition, which is the highest recognition that a
post commander can receive. The post closed in 1998 due to membership decline and member
inactivity. Most of the information in this collection is from 1987 to 1998. English
