The American Jewish Tercentenary Committee of Wisconsin was formed in 1953 after a national
plea by the Jewish Tercentenary Committee to adopt a statewide program of observance of the
300th anniversary of Jewish settlement in the United States. The Wisconsin Committee
provided aid and assisted local organizations in planning local committees within the state
and advised the state communities of statewide programs so that there would not be any
conflicting activities. They held their celebration in 1954. The group continued to meet
annually. The Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning was formed from this group for the
purpose of promoting Jewish scholarship and learning.
