Florence E. May Papers, 1965-1983

Scope and Content Note

Papers of a University of Wisconsin-Extension professor of nursing. Consists of program files for short courses and workshops covering medical and nursing administration topics taught at the University of Wisconsin-Extension (1965-1983) and professional committee materials (1971-1983).

The program files were created in the preparation and presentation of the short courses and workshops. These files contain registration forms, statistical reports on enrolled students, course evalutions by students, reports on expectations and needs by students, class handouts, and reports by students of skill and equipment experience prior to and during the program. The level of documentation varies from file to file. The major class offerings were Clinic Nursing Program, Drug Therapy for Registered Nurses, Group Dynamics for Registered Nurses, Nursing Care of the Aged, and a Refresher Course in Medical-Surgical Nursing.

There are materials from some of the committees on which May served, including the Coordinating Council for Continuing Education for Nurses in the Greater Milwaukee Area (1969-1971); the Nursing Planning Committee for Milwaukee Regional Medical Instructional Television Stations (1971-1980); the Committee on Continuing Education for the Milwaukee District Nurses Association (1972-1982); and the Quality Assurance in Nursing Committee of the Wisconsin Nurses Association including materials on Quality Assurance in Nursing for Milwaukee Regional Medical Instructional Television Stations (1976-1980). Also there is an almost complete run of printed schedules (1971-1983) of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Instructional Television Stations, and a curriculum vitae revised in 1983 documents the above and other committee involvement and the general career of Florence E. May. The program files are physically arranged in their original, chronological order. The committee files are physically arranged at the end of the collection.
