The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was created in 1956 by the merger of the Wisconsin
State College, Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin Extension Division. The Dept. of
Mathematics was established at the merger. In 1978, the name of the Dept. of Mathematics was
changed to the Dept. of Mathematical Sciences.
