Records of the department chairman largely consisting of
correspondence and meeting minutes of numerous committees. The correspondence files mainly
contain letters between the department chairman and the dean and associate dean of the
College of Letters & Science. The collection documents course and curriculum
developments, staffing, space, budget, donations and acquisitions, research projects,
committee activities, and other matters of concern.
Included in the collection are
materials regarding the graduate program, a Ph.D. program proposal, and the Department of
Zoology/Microbiology minutes and correspondence. The bulk of the Microbiology correspondence
consists of copies of outgoing letters of assistant professor Cynthia V. Sommer largely
regarding courses and research activities.
