This collection is comprised of correspondence,
drawings, manuals, lists, specifications, and photographs that were part of the
Milwaukee Road Mechanical Department. The bulk of documents are from the 1930s to
1970s. The records include those for Locomotives (with related tenders used during
and after the steam era) used by the railroad to haul freight and passengers,
freight cars, passenger cars, and shop records. Later documents incorporate records
on the retirement, salvage, and dismantling of railroad assets in the 1970s and
early 1980s.
