Joshua Hathaway was an early settler of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. He was a district surveyor for the Milwaukee territory, later a City
Alderman, City Tax Assessor, probate judge, banker, real estate dealer, and a
lawyer. This collection contains correspondence, legal, real estate and financial
papers of Joshua Hathaway. There are also materials relating to the Milwaukee and
Watertown Plank Road Company and Milwaukee and Watertown Railroad Company. Also
included are some papers of Joshuas' cousin and brother-in-law John L. Hathaway, a
businessman and Milwaukee city official.
