Series: Correspondence
Scope and Content Note: This series is composed of school files, organization files, individual files and alumni files, each organized alphabetically. The largest file is the school files. School files, mainly 1947 to 1969, consist of national office correspondence with member colleges and universities. Although primarily correspondence, they also include some mailings, working papers, newsletters, minutes and pamphlets. Organization files, mainly 1951-1965, consist of correspondence with many American and international organizations, mainly student associations and educational advocacy groups. The alumni files include updates on activities of a few National Student Association alumni, as well as requests by the National Student Association for donations.

Series: Administrative Files
Scope and Content Note: This artificial series is a combination of several smaller sets of files. The general office files are probably those of the permanent office staff and administrators. The individual files are those of the annually-elected officers. Some of this material probably duplicates that in other series, since the officers often received copies of others' correspondence, reports, memos, et cetera. Although not comprehensive, they do include the officers' own notes and memoranda.

Series: Financial Information
Scope and Content Note: This artificial series contains general financial reports for the entire organization and for various projects, as well as documentation of fundraising efforts, and communications with foundations. This series also contains information about National Student Association negotiations for a number of student services and cooperatives for its members. Many seemed never to have been widely implemented, if at all. Information is also included here about secret CIA funding of the National Student Association, and the ensuing problems which arose upon disclosure.

Campus liaison files
Series: International Affairs, Programs, and Commissions
Scope and Content Note: Regional files are arranged geographically and thereunder chronologically, 1946 to 1960. Mainly correspondence, clippings and reports on campus international programming from the international regional liaison to the International Affairs vice president. The Foreign Student Leadership Project (FSLP) brought American students into close contact with a group of representative foreign student leaders. The Foreign Student Leadership Project files consist mainly of three types--administrative correspondence with sponsoring colleges and universities; files for individual foreign students, including applications, arranged by country of origin, with personal background information as well as papers or speeches they may have written; files on the evaluation conferences and mid-winter meetings. The purpose of the International Student Relations Seminar was to intensively study student conditions and organizations worldwide, the role of the United States National Student Association, of the American student and campus; and to provide informed student leaders to assist in the United States Student Association international programming. The series consist mainly of student applications, background working papers compiled by the staff, and final student reports.
