Arrangement of the Materials

The collection is arranged in two series:

1. Accession Card Index, 1962-1995
   1. Alphabetical Index
   2. Numerical Index
2. Accession Files, 1972-1995

The accession cards in series 1 serve as a partial index to the accession files, although series 2 contains files not represented in series 1 and vice versa. The two subseries of series 1 contain identical cards and differ only in the order of arrangement (alphabetic by artist name, and numeric by accession number). Series 2 is arranged by accession number.

For both series, accession numbers are composed of two or three parts. The first number refers to the year in which the accession occurred. The second number refers to the order in which the accession occurred during that year. The third number, if extant, is used in the case of accession of multiple works by the same artist and has no significance except for identification.
