Abstract:

Artificial collection of panoramic photographs of military units before World War I, 1896-1916. Images from units stationed in Texas likely pertain to Wisconsin National Guard units activated during the Mexican Border War, but also could be training units prior to World War I. These images feature a variety of units such as infantry, naval and medical regiments. Most of these images are unit photographs, and a few have individuals identified. Images with identified individuals have been denoted with an asterisk in the container list.

This is an artificial collection of panoramic photograph, including images separated out from Wisconsin Veterans Museum archival collections and images from the GAR Memorial Hall. The panoramic photograph collection has been separated into seven collections: Pre-World War I, World War I, Interwar, World War II, Post-World War II, Veterans Organizations and Camps and Locations.

The Pre-World War I panoramic collection includes military organizations up through 1916. These images include training, regimental and company photographs, and parade photographs. Of interest is a post-Civil War photograph of a German Shooting Club (undated), featuring the club members posing with their guns.

For images related to these regiments during World War I, there are photographs of many of these regiments and companies in the World War I and Interwar collections. Also of interest are camp photographs from the areas where these images were taken. While it is likely that Mexican Border War images are located in this collection, there is a possibility they could also be in the World War I grouping.
