Abstract:
Miscellaneous papers of soldier and historian Smith, including his journal of a trip from Pittsburgh to Madison, Wis., and the lead region in 1837; an autobiographical sketch; and a few articles on subjects of local interest. There are 3 volumes of his History of Wisconsin, of which volumes 1 and 3 were printed in 1854 and volume 2 never published. This unpublished volume is incomplete, containing only 30 pages of a history of Brown County, and was apparently designed to be the “descriptive” volume of the series.
