Scope and Content Note

Papers of Laura Kiel, a Peace Corps volunteer in Colombia, South America. A 1960 graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, where she majored in home economics, Laura Kiel taught in Wisconsin public schools for three years before joining the Peace Corps. Following three months of training, she arrived in Chiriguana, a town of 7,000, in the county of Magdalena. Her work included teaching English, sewing, handicrafts, gardening, cooking, nutrition and sanitation. Her service with the Peace Corps ended in June 1965. The papers include correspondence with her family, diaries, and a folder of newspaper clippings and miscellany.
