Biography/History
In 1856 William Wight left Pennsylvania to come to Wisconsin with his family, and settled on a farm in Whitewater. In 1861 he married Albina Leighton. Both William and Albina kept diaries, making almost daily entries with observations on weather conditions, farm life, local births, deaths, and marriages, and other family and town events.
Scope and Content Note
William's diaries cover the years 1869-1910. Albina's diaries also start in 1869, and continue to 1886, just a year before her death. A few volumes are evidently missing, but William included a summary of family and local events for the years 1856-1903 at the end of one of the diaries.
