Biography/History

In 1907 the Russell Sage Foundation was established in New York with funds provided by Mrs. Russell Sage. Its purpose was to promote “the improvement of social and living conditions in the United States...,” and to this end funds were to be used chiefly to conduct research. Activities of the Foundation are carried on directly by the organization or jointly with selected institutions.

Scope and Content Note

In the course of its long-range study of industrial relations and living standards, the Foundation kept a file of newspaper clippings concerning labor relations. This collection contains mounted clippings for the period from 1924 to 1948, together with occasional inter-office memoranda, correspondence, mimeographed statements, and union directories. The material is labeled, and is filed alphabetically by subjects.
