Business records of a Superior, Wis. firm which manufactured and sold farm water supply items including windmills, steel towers, iron pumps, and water tanks. A windmill which could pump water and grind grain at the same time was patented in 1882 and designated “duplex” by the Lake City Tool Co., Madison, Wis. In 1885, the firm was purchased by the Andrew brothers and moved to Brooklyn, Wis. under the name Duplex Windmill Co. The company was re-established in Superior in 1892 with the name Duplex Manufacturing Co. The collection consists of scattered correspondence; letterbooks; an invoice book; scattered historical materials; written recollections of company president Homer L. Andrew, Delphin M. Johnson, and William M. Spencer; materials concerning company ownership and stocks; and seven product catalogs. English
