Biography/History

The Wisconsin Cranberry Sales Company was incorporated on March 23, 1906 in the City of Grand Rapids, Wisconsin (now Wisconsin Rapids), “...to act as an agent in the sale of cranberries; to establish uniform packages for marketing of the fruit; to adopt rules to prevent fraud and to promote reliable cleaning, grading, and packaging; to promote a desire for and sale of cranberries, and to procure reasonable shipping rates,” President of this new company was E. P. Arpin and secretary-treasurer was A. C. Bennet, both of Grand Rapids. The company acted as a middle man between the various growers and the wholesale market. On August 15, 1907, A. U. Chaney, selling agent, and the Wisconsin Cranberry Sales Company joined a national pool consisting of several other cranberry sales companies. This New York-based organization was called the National Fruit Exchange and on May 16, 1911 changed its name to the American Cranberry Exchange,

On August 19, 1919, the Wisconsin Cranberry Sales Company was completely reorganized into a non-stock, non-profit organization because of its corporate tax position, although they retained the same name.
