Biography/History

The informal social club known as the Old Academy Girls was founded at River Falls on August 15, 1900 by a small group of women who had attended the River Falls Academy which had been established in 1856. At first membership in the alumnae organization was extended to the women who had been students or teachers at the Academy prior to 1870, but as the years passed the period of eligibility was increased first to 1874 and later to 1878, the year that the Academy building burned. Usually the group met annually in River Falls on the third Thursday of August for a business meeting, reminiscences, and picnic.

Scope and Content Note

The two volumes of records include an account of the club's founding, minutes and newspaper accounts of its meetings from 1900 through 1945, a list of members attending early meetings, and lists of deceased members. A few unbound clippings are in an envelope inside the rear cover of the second volume.
