Scope and Content Note

The most comprehensive documentation of the town government is found in the Board of Supervisors proceedings and Town meeting minutes sections of the Clerk's general record books. Other information in the Clerk's general record books typically includes a register of orders drawn on the Town Treasurer showing order number and amount, date of issue, and purpose of payment; account of receipts and expenditures showing date and amount, by whom paid, from what account or to whom paid, and purpose; register and oaths of town officers; treasurer's bonds; index of chattel mortgages; apportionment of school taxes; and descriptions of school districts in the township. Volume [1] contains primarily highway orders, 1858-1869; and school district boundary alterations, 1869-1946. Volume [7] contains financial information, 1933-1942 and meeting minutes, 1933-1967.

The records of general (federal, state and county offices) and town elections, 1870-1902, includes lists of eligible voters, names of the inspectors of the election and their oaths, statements of votes (number of votes received by candidates for various offices), and certificates of election stating the winner's name.

The volume of highway records, 1870-1880, shows names of the overseers of highways, the boundaries of road districts, road warrants, and highway tax lists. The Treasurer's books, 1883-1952, contain the accounts allowed by the board and records of the school districts treasurers' reports. The Treasurer's books may duplicate financial information in the Clerk's books.
