Abstract:
Papers of editor Nicholas Burckel and research files of contributing authors for the book, Racine: Growth and Change in a Wisconsin County, a project of the Racine County Bicentennial Liaison Committee. Editor's files include correspondence with contributing authors and others, publicity and promotional materials, information concerning the authors and book's publication, news clippings and bibliographies, and some records of the sponsoring committee. Research files of contributing authors include correspondence, prepublication comments from outside readers, notes, newsclippings, and actual or photocopied documents. Of note are Lawrence Crumb's extensive notes on churches and their histories; N. Peter Ross's notes on township historic structures and on cemetery occupants; John Buenker's compilation of oral history interviews and transcripts, extensive notes, and collection of Racine labor documents including handbills (1951-1956) and local UAW-CIO unions.
