Biography/History

Earl W. Warren, Democratic Assemblyman from the first district, Racine County, was born on 25 February 1902 in Hurley, Wisconsin. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Hurley, and attended Ironwood Business College in Michigan. Beginning in 1936, Warren worked as an assembler at the Young Radiator Company, Racine, and continued to do so throughout his legislative career. He served four terms on the Racine County board prior to his election to the Assembly in 1954. In the legislature, Warren was a member of the municipalities, state affairs, insurance and banking, public welfare, legislative council, local government, joint finance, commerce and manufactures, county boards, and water resources committees. In 1970 Warren was re-elected for his final term. He died on 3 May 1972 and is survived by his widow, Ann.

Scope and Content Note

The papers in this collection are fragmentary and reveal very little about Warren's career and legislative activities. His voting records indicate consistent “pro-labor” support; other evidence of Warren's view-points may be found in folders of campaign brochures, newsclippings, and miscellany; drug abuse files; and newsclippings regarding his career. The correspondence present in the collection includes little constituent mail, but does contain invitations, letters of support and congratulation, and correspondence with his employer relating to Warren's reduced work schedule.
