Abstract:
Civil War letters principally written by Loyd G. Harris, a lieutenant in the 6th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, Company C, to his sister, Nettie, and his brother-in-law, Otis (1860-1868). The letters include information on troop movements and duties, weather, health, Harris’ reflections on the Battle of Gettysburg during which he was wounded, and his thoughts on Lincoln’s assassination. The later letters detail Harris’ life after the Civil War ended. Also included are a few letters written on Harris’ behalf or written to Harris by others. The photographs are primarily portraits in carte-de-visite format of Civil War officers and contemporary women associated with Harris, circa 1861-1870.
