Biography/History
The National League of American Pen Women is an organization of professional women who work in the creative arts. Formed to give these women an opportunity to promote and stimulate the production of their literary and artistic work and to establish contacts and fellowship for their mutual benefit, the Madison Branch held its first meeting on April 20, 1931. Members had an opportunity to present and discuss their own work, to participate in roundtable discussions about a particular subject, or to attend monthly programs with noted guest speakers devoted to such topics as crafts, music, art, drama, or short stories. In addition, from 1939-1940 the Madison Branch also produced a 15-minute radio program broadcast over WIBA which focused on similar subjects.
