Scope and Content Note

This collection is concerned mainly with the activities of Waldemar Ager of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, editor of a Norwegian weekly entitled Reform until 1941, and author of a history of the Civil War's 15th Wisconsin volunteer infantry regiment. This primarily Norwegian regiment was commanded by Colonel Hans C. Heg. In 1914, Ager was elected secretary of a fund raising committee for a monument to Colonel Heg. The major portion of these papers concerns this committee's efforts, which resulted in the monument now standing at the southeast corner of the State Capitol in Madison. Also included in the papers is a roster of the 15th Regiment.

The remainder of the collection is comprised of miscellaneous items detailed in the contents list below and of a manuscript written by T. Helgeson on Indian lands in Wisconsin; Helgeson's relationship to Ager is not known. This manuscript and much of the correspondence is in Norwegian.
