Biography/History
Schultz was a Milwaukee businessperson who served for 16 years as alderperson of the 11th Ward. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Schultz graduated from South Division High School, and attended Marquette University prior to working as a bookkeeper at the T.S. Wheel Company. He also owned an insurance and real estate agency. For 32 years, until the time of his death, Schultz operated the Forest Home Arcade, a tavern and bowling alley begun by his father, Stanley. In 1932, John A. Schultz was elected to the Milwaukee Common Council, where he subsequently became chair of the license and finance committees. As alderperson, Schultz opposed gambling and crusaded against taverns and tavern owners who violated liquor and vice laws. Schultz's other activities included founding the Polish American Bowling Association in 1928, and sponsoring many charity bowling tournaments. He also organized a chapter of the Polish Century Club in Milwaukee, and was a member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union, the Polish Association of America, and other groups. He and his wife, Estelle, were the parents of four children: Geraldine (Mrs. Claude Pehowski), Renee (Mrs. Leo Ricco), John A., Jr., and Thomas.
