Abstract:
Papers of Jordens, Milwaukee, Wis., relating largely to the Milwaukee German-American community and including scattered correspondence, newsclippings, financial statements, minutes, and other materials on the Rigoletto Mandolin Club (1925-1945), and the Federation of German-American Societies of Wisconsin (1925-1954). Also present are letters (circa 1874-1882), mostly in German script, to Jordens' great-grandfather, Emil Viergutz, a German immigrant and hardware store owner in Milwaukee.

Biography/History

Harry W. Jordens, a Milwaukee businessman, is of German extraction. He has been employed as a salesman by a number of large Wisconsin companies, including Evinrude and Pabst, has worked independently as an insurance agent, and has also been interested in real estate. He has been active in at least two German American organizations: the Rigoletto-Mandolin Club, and the Federation of German American Societies of Wisconsin.

Scope and Content Note

The Jordens Papers relate primarily to the Milwaukee German American community. They include a folder of letters and other writings in German script that relate to Jordens' great-grandfather, Emil Viergutz, a German immigrant who operated a hardware store in Milwaukee. The papers also include scattered correspondence, clippings, financial statements, minutes, and other miscellany relating to the Rigoletto Mandolin Club (an orchestral group composed almost entirely of mandolins), 1925-1945, and to the Federation of German-American Societies of Wisconsin, 1941-1954.
