Abstract:
Records of ACORN-California, most of which relates to radio and television stations with which ACORN was affiliated, especially the California Community Television Network (CCTN). The collection documents the organization's mission to diversify California's radio stations' programnming. Included are business plans, programming updates, interviews with community members, studies of potential viewers, and recordings (reel-to-reel tapes) of radio programs concerning the establishment of CCTN, project reports, and videotapes of programs produced by ACORN and shown on station KCAH.

Scope and Content Note: Papers documenting ACORN's involvement with the California Community Television Network, KUBO-FM, KNON and continuing mission to diversify California radio stations with multi-ethnic, social justice and community centered programming. Included are general publicity materials, grant applications as well as staff recruiting and community organizing materials. Also included are reel to reel audio recordings of the radio show, “Voice of the People/ La Voz del Pueblo,” and pictures documenting political victories or campaigns.

Scope and Content Note: Additions, 1983-1996, documenting ACORN's involvement with KCAH, a community television station broadcasting from Salinas California consisting of grant documents and fundraising, memos concerning station use and policies, and events sponsored by KCAH and other radio and television stations affiliated with the California Community Television Network and ACORN. Also included is a small amount of material about non-television programs and workshops conducted by ACORN in the Salinas area and miscellaneous newspaper clippings of various local events. In addition there are videotapes of programs produced by ACORN and shown on KCAH in the 1980s and 1990s principally consisting of three series: “Café Hermanas,” 1989; “Acorn in Action,” 1985-1987; and “Aqui en Salinas,” 1993-1996.
