Abstract:
Material collected by social and peace activist William O. Brown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, relating to his involvement with the Milwaukee area American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), a Quaker political and philanthropic organization, and the World Federalist Association, an international peace, democracy and human rights federation. The papers consist primarily of committee rosters, briefings, memos, meeting agendas, and speeches, as well as leaflets and pamphlets related to AFSC campaigns arranged chronologically from 1979-1994. There is one folder of similar materials relating to the World Federalist Association. The papers document AFSC’s charitable work in the American Midwest, Asia, Africa, and Latin America, as well as the organization’s promotion of peace in America and abroad. Additionally, the papers document the structure of the organization and the Quaker ideologies that supported and motivated member activities.
