Part 1 (M95-241): Original Collection,
1961-1988 6.6 cubic feet (6 records center cartons and 2 archives boxes) : Papers of NBC producer and writer Bob Rogers documenting his career and the television
documentary projects on which he worked beginning in 1961 when a free-lance writer for
NBC's “David Brinkley's Journal.” The collection also provides information
on the making of television documentaries from selecting a topic to getting the final
version to the studio, and shows the interaction between producer and network in
deciding the perspective and depths of a documentary. The topics covered by Rogers
include CIA activities in developing countries, the political situation in Israel and
South Africa, presidential candidates, marijuana use, and Latin America, particularly El
Salvador. Included in the project files (which are arranged chronologically) are
scripts, notes, background material, budgets, interview transcripts, correspondence,
memoranda, and schedules. Some of those interviewed by Rogers include Yasser Arafat,
Chief M. Buthelezi, Senator Daniel P. Moynihan, Ruben Zamora, Roberto D'Abuisson, the
Shah of Iran, Vladimir Sakharov, Jose Napoleon Duarte, Father Cortina, Secretary of
State George Schultz, and Senator Walter F. Mondale.
