The Euroco Costumes collection contains
the “costume bibles” from over 175 musicals, plays, television, and film
productions spanning from 1990 to 2019. The collection includes sketches, fabric samples,
photos, and other paperwork about the productions. The costumes were constructed by Euroco
Costumes and include designs by Theoni V. Aldredge, William Ivey Long, Catherine Zuber and
owner Janet Bloor, as well as designs for productions directed by Twyla Tharp.

Biography/History
Euroco Costumes started constructing costumes in 1990 and continues to create costumes
today. Headquartered in New York City, they mostly construct costumes for Broadway
productions but have also created costumes for other staged performances, television and film
productions. They specialize in vegan costumes and fabric modifications. Euroco Costumes is
a part of the Costume Industry Coalition and is owned by Janet Bloor. For more information

Scope and Content Note
The “costume bibles” describe the process of costume creation from bidding for
the construction of costumes through costume fittings with sketches, samples and
photographs. Occasionally, there are examples of other paperwork and newspaper clippings of
reviews of the productions. Sometimes the relationship between Euroco and the design team
would continue through tours of the Broadway shows. While over 175 productions are
represented covering nearly thirty years, Euroco would not necessarily construct every
costume for every production. There are a number of costume bibles which contain only a few
costumes. Some of the best represented productions include: How to
Succeed in Business without Really Trying; Miss
Saigon; Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella; South Pacific; and Spamalot.
Several costume designers are represented throughout the collection including Theoni
Aldredge, William Ivey Long, Catherine Zuber, and owner Janet Bloor, as well as designs for several
Twyla Tharpe directed productions. A significant portion of the Public Theatre's 2004 season
is represented by Richard III, actor Judith Ivey, Dirty Tricks, and The Controversy of
Valladolid. Different productions for the same work may appear throughout the
collection.

Arrangement of the Materials
The “costume bibles” are arranged in their original order. Some shows—such as
Hairspray—had multiple binders and are housed in multiple folders. In cases where multiple
shows were housed in one binder, these were housed in a folder together or in cases where
a single binder had more materials than could fit in a single file these were separated
into multiple folders. Binders which contained multiple shows are connected in a variety of
ways: the same designers; staged in the same theater; or produced during a similar time
frame (for example, 1995-1999).
