Abstract:
Papers of Walter Uphoff and Mary Jo Uphoff, documenting Walter Uphoff’s interests and writings concerning the Kohler Company strikes, teaching in the field of workers and labor education, and active membership in the national and Wisconsin Socialist Party, including his candidacy for U.S. Senator on the state Socialist ticket in 1944. He also promoted the cooperative movement and good farm-labor relations and, with his wife Mary Jo, managed and operated Fellowship Farm Cooperative (first in Prairie du Sac, then in Oregon, Wisconsin). The Uphoffs were active in peace organizations, supported their son in his activities as a Freedom Rider, and in later years were interested in psychic phenomena and paranormal psychology. The papers include correspondence, financial records, mailings and small publications, as well as research materials and drafts of Walter Uphoff’s books on the Kohler strikes.
