Abstract:
Records of The Writers Place (TWP), a non-profit corporation dedicated to the proliferation of Madison, Wisconsin’s literary community, founded by Burt and Dale Kushner in the early 1980s. The paper records are scant and consist of correspondence, news clippings, and copies of some of their newsletters. The Writers Place hosted readings and open microphone programs which were recorded and the bulk of the collection consists of these recordings (audio cassette tapes). In addition to these programs, The Writers Place offered classes in prose and poetry. Many of the recordings were first broadcast on WORT community radio or Wisconsin Public Radio. They are generally organized by author or participant with the exception of the open microphone programs which are arranged thematically.
