Scope and Content Note

Financial records, minutes of meetings, and other miscellaneous materials of the Welsh Congregational Church, covering the entire span of its existence, from its organization in 1855 to its dissolution in 1904. The collection includes three bound volumes, which contain the minutes of annual congregational meetings, records of individual contributions, subscriptions to support the ministry, and membership lists. The first volume lists the organizing members, which included John Wheldon, founder of Bangor and subsequently long-time clerk and secretary for the church. It apparently was John Wheldon who made the entries in these volumes. The third volume contains a statement of dissolution, and describes the final sale of church property. A fourth volume, in Welsh, apparently is a Sunday school record book, giving attendance figures, as well as the names of the Sunday school officials and teachers. In addition, a small folder of loose-leaf materials includes a list of trustees for 1859; correspondence, in Welsh; a letter of dismissal, in English; drafts of minutes for the last meetings of the church; and religious tracts, both in Welsh and English.
