Abstract:
Mary K. Killough research files, 1813-2004, for a series of articles written on the Norwegian Moravian missionary, Otto Tank. Born March 11, 1800 near Halden, Norway, Tank spent much of his life in missionary service throughout Europe and in the South American country of Suriname. Tank eventually settled in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he dealt mostly in real estate.

Scope and Content Note

Included in the collection are copies of three of Killough's published articles; her correspondence with individuals in Germany, Norway, Suriname, the UK, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin; and annotated research materials, the bulk of which document Tank's years in Suriname. Additionally, there are newsletters from Heritage Hill State Park in Green Bay, the site of the Tank Cottage; Tank's correspondence with family members, his citizenship papers, and other official documents such as warrants of attorney; many of these documents are in German, Dutch, or Norwegian with some translations by Killough. Images of Tank's gravesite and residence in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as well as renderings of the Tank Cottage in Green Bay are also included.
