Biography/History

Paul Romig was long active in Green Bay and Brown County community and conservation activities. His many interests included land and wildlife conservation, protection of endangered species of birds, restrictions on pole-trapping, pollution control, environmental education, and the establishment of community camps and the Brown County Nature Center. He was a founder of the Northeastern Wisconsin Audubon Society, and member of the National Audubon Society, Brown County Conservation Alliance, YMCA, and many other organizations. Also, he has published many booklets and articles on the subject of conservation. In 1977 Romig was honored with the John P. Cofrin Conservation Award by the Fort Howard Paper Foundation, Inc., in recognition of forty years of effort and accomplishments.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of subject files illustrating Romig's work and interests in the field of conservation. There are no business or family papers. Within each file the papers have been arranged chronologically. Included are reports, brochures, correspondence and miscellaneous documents concerning conservation of land and wildlife in Brown County; protection of endangered birds of prey, such as eagles and ospreys, and the outlawing of pole-trapping; and construction of bluebird houses and trails. Also to be found are papers on the control of pollution; environmental education, including questionnaires sent to school officials; and the Brown County Nature Center. A file of various awards and honors given to Romig is also present. The miscellaneous publications file includes material by or about Romig.
