Biography/History

Joseph R. Anderegg, Sr. (1826-1875), was a Swiss immigrant who settled in Ahnapee, later known as Algoma, Wisconsin, in 1854. He was chosen Town Clerk, 1856, Register of Deeds of Kewaunee County, 1858, and County Sheriff, 1864. Mr. Anderegg died on June 6, 1875, and left four children: Charles, Joseph, Jr., George, and Sarah. Floretta Seibt, daughter of Bohemian immigrant Ferdinand Seibt (1824-1895), was married to Joseph Anderegg, Jr. After the death of Joseph, Jr., she remarried to become Floretta Wodsedlak.

Scope and Content Note

The collection contains correspondence, legal papers, and miscellaneous documents largely pertaining to Joseph R. Anderegg, Sr., Floretta Seibt and Ferdinand Seibt. There is a small amount of correspondence, some in German. The majority of documents pertain to the Anderegg property in Algoma, 1855-1882, 1919. Also included are various financial papers, Seibt's personal documents, and some newspaper clippings about the Anderegg family and Ahnapee. The bulk of the records date prior to 1886; later items include war ration stamps (1949), a 1919 property contract, and newsclippings.
