Robert Sheerin was a Texas-based film collector who passed away in the last years of the twentieth century.

The Robert Sheerin film collection consists of 155 feature-length films and shorts on 16 mm film spanning from approximately 1915 through 1984 with a large breadth of titles and production companies represented. In the interest of maintaining the integrity of Sheerin’s original collection, titles have been arranged in a single series simply composed of film titles. The content of the films includes a wide range of genres. All prints have an aspect ratio of 1.37:1 and all sound is monaural unless otherwise noted.

The films in the Sheerin collection have been arranged by call number.

No duplication or public screening without consent of copyright holder.

Acquisition Information

The Robert Sheerin film collection was acquired through a donation from the American Film Institute in 2001. Before the collection came to the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research, it was inspected by the Library of Congress for access and preservation copies of certain films, and any 8 mm films that were a part of the collection were sent to other institutions. Accession Number: M2001-101

Processing Information

The majority of the collection was processed shortly after arrival, and multiple prints or duplicate titles were not accessioned. Approximately 50 titles were processed in 2015, and many exhibited advanced stages of vinegar syndrome and were consequently reappraised and discarded.
