Scope and Content Note

The General Record Book includes proceedings of annual town meetings and meetings of the Board of Supervisors, 1923-1949; reports of receipts and disbursements, 1923-1948; and record of oaths of office, 1924-1938. Annual reports, 1940-1972, note receipts and disbursements, summaries of tax collections, fire department reports, and details on payments for relief. Not all years are present. Civil defense records, 1962-1966, consist of incoming correspondence from the County Director of Civil Defense plus an outline of Civil Defense Training Courses for the Soviet Union population. Election volumes include lists of voters. Board of Health vital statistics are a mix of originals and copies. Justice of the Peace dockets document primarily monetary disputes but also include a few extensive proceedings and testimony in criminal cases. The volume for 1897-1917 contains the judge's notes on the “characteristics and care and management of horses.”
