Abstract:
Correspondence of Walter Gould, foreign general sales manager. Originally entitled “Liberal European Countries Subject File - Foreign Department #146” and arranged alphabetically by topic, these records represent the letters A-F, all that was received by the Archives. The files contain correspondence concerning United Artists (UA) distribution, personnel, sales, advertising, and film censorship (primarily in Asia during the World War II era). The most extensive files concern Great Britain, France, Australia, South America, and Algeria. In general, the focus is on individual and national rather than legal problems. Two files are of particular interest. One concerns Henri Marin, a UA representative whom French officials in North Africa suspected was a German agent. The other concerns Charles Core, UA's representative in the Philippines, who was imprisoned by the Japanese for three years.

Note:

Forms part of the United Artists Corporation collection.
