Scope and Contents

Series 1 (Lecture Materials) features lecture notes and corresponding 35mm lecture slides from color and design courses that Kreilick taught in the UW-Madison Art Department. They include topics such as Bridget Riley, women artists, color field painters of the 1950s and 1960s, mosaics, optical illusions, and color systems. It also includes a lecture on the landscape mosaic panels that Kreilick created for the Milwaukee State Office Building in 1959.

Series 2 (Course and Curriculum Materials) combines various documents that Kreilick created as part of her instruction ranging from the 1970s to 1990s. It includes miscellaneous lecture notes and slides in addition to syllabi for color and design theory courses such as Design 120: Fundamentals I; Crafts 175; Independent Study; and Color 441. It also includes handouts, student letters, and summaries from the Design Workshop, a 2-credit course taught by Kreilick in which students traveled to New York City for networking opportunities. Series 3 (Art Department Administrative Materials) includes documents and files related to the UW-Madison Art Department from 1967 to 1990. It contains correspondence, grant applications, and letters of support from students regarding Kreilick's nomination for the Distinguished Teaching Awards in 1981. It also includes a copy of the Ten-Year Study of the Department of Art History, 1946-1956. Series 4 (Professional Materials) includes materials that Kreilick received from the Inter-society Color Council and the Society of the Golden Section. The Inter-society Color Council is an academic association dedicated to the study of color in the context of art, science, and industry. The Society of the Golden section was a newsletter published in Chicago that promoted the work of Swiss-born architect Abel Faidy. Series 5 (Oversize Materials) includes promotional posters for the 1979 Color Exhibition in Gallery Seven and the Design Workshop course for Fall 1978-1979. The box also contains 13 oversize color studies created by Kreilick with a corresponding item list. Series 6 (Audiotapes) includes 3 audiotapes on lectures delivered by Kreilick between 1976 to 1977. The tapes correspond to lecture notes and slides in Series 1 and 2 such as Mosaics No 2.; Women Artists 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries; and Professional Issues in Art. The Professional Issues in Art lecture addresses the challenges faced by female artists and art department faculty.
