Biographical / Historical

Annie and Albert Fink were married musicians and music instructors based in Milwaukee.

Annie Peat Fink was born in Racine in 1877. Her father, Richard Peat, was born in Wales. Annie played the organ at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Racine from the age of 17. In addition to performing as a church and concert organist, Annie was a teacher of the pipe organ, piano and singing. She had music studios in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha and Chicago, and headed the the piano and organ departments at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Downer College and the State Teachers' College. Annie married Albert Fink in 1901, and their daughter, Margaret, was born 1909. Annie Peat Fink died in 1917 at the age of 39.

Albert Fink was born in 1867. He studied violin in Berlin, Germany, at the Royal Academy of Music under Prof. Josef Joachim. On returning to America, he played first violin in the Chicago Symphony and the Walter Damrosch orchestra. He also played viola in the Wille Jaffee String Qaurtet. Albert was also a music instructor, and headed the violin department at Marquette University, the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music, Downer College and the State Teachers' College. Albert's sister, Emma Fink, was a composer and pianist. Albert Fink died in 1950 at the age of 83.

Scope and Contents

The Annie and Albert Fink collection is contained in six sheet music boxes. It is organized into two series.

Series I contains photocopies of of newspaper clippings, photographs, concert programs, and correspondence related to the careers of Annie and Albert Fink. It aslo contains the transcript of a lecture given by Annie Fink.

Series II contains sheet music and scores collected by Annie and Albert Fink. Sub-series A contains scores of religious cantatas by Welsh composers. Sub-series B contains handwritten and published sheet music for the organ from the collection of Annie Fink, including annotations and the dates of performances. Sub-series C contains published violin sheet music collected by Albert Fink. Sub-series D contains bound collections of sheet music and musical exercises.
