Biographical / Historical
Ronald Klett was born in Milwaukee February 25, 1928. He attended Milwaukee State Teachers
College from 1946 to 1952. Between 1970 until his death in January 2000, Klett wrote and
distributed the newsletter of the Willem Mengelberg Society, a musical appreciation society
he founded. The society was dedicated to promoting the legacy of Dutch conductor Willem
Mengelberg. Klett also wrote several books about Mengelberg which the society published.
Klett died in Manotowoc in January 20, 2000.

Scope and Contents
The collection mainly consists of materials produced by Ronald Klett in his capacity as
founder and president of the Willem Mengelberg Society. The society's mission was to promote
the legacy of Dutch conductor Willem Mengelberg (1871-1951), and to research Mengelberg's
life and works.
The society published a newsletter (3-4 annually) between 1970 and 2000, and several books
about Mengelberg. The activities and products of the society appear to be soley the work of
Klett.
The collection is arranged into two series: I. Papers, II. Photographs and postcards.
Series I, Papers includes a form letter for prospective subscribers detailing the goals,
activities and subscription information of the society (1970?); an incomplete, unpublished
book manuscript, "Willem Mengelberg : His American concerts, his American fate" (1994).
Series II, Photographs and postcards, includes loose photographs, postcards and menus from
dinners honoring Mengelberg (1912-1947).
