Abstract:

Collection consists of the records of SAGE (Senior Action in a Gay Environment) Milwaukee, an organization serving LGBT elders in southeastern Wisconsin. The collection documents concerns and activities of LGBT seniors.

SAGE Milwaukee was established in December 1993 as an extension of the national SAGE network. Eldon Murray, a well-known and award-winning LGBT activist, was one of the founders of the organization. SAGE Milwaukee focuses on developing events, programming, and socials meant to improve the quality of life for senior members of the southeastern Wisconsin LGBT community.

The collection largely consists of annual reports, board meeting minutes, brochures and other publications, including newsletters, committee materials, and photographs of people and activities.

A spreadsheet with file-level information on the electronic records is available in the Archives department. The spreadsheet contains information on original file name, file size, date and time of creation of original file, and software used to create the file. Some of the files were inadvertently altered during transfer, so the Creator and Date Modified fields may not include correct information. In addition, not every file available has its metadata listed on the sheet. Additional technical metadata is available for most files; consult an archivist for more information.

Kimberly Howard (supervised by Christel Maass and Brad Houston) processed the collection from August to November 2013. Christel Maass reprocessed the collection in March 2014. The electronic records were reprocessed by Chloe Nielsen in Spring 2021.
