Abstract:

Records of the Walnut Way Conservation Corp., a Milwaukee neighborhood association, documenting neighborhood revitalization and community development. The collection mainly consists of newsletters and brochures which informed residents of development opportunities and neighborhood events and activities, including community garden projects. The collection also includes a 2010 publication describing the community's history.

The Walnut Way Conservation Corp. was founded in October 2000. Their mission is to sustain neighborhood well-being through community organizing, property restoration, and economic development, in the triangle area south of North Avenue, north of Fond du Lac, east of 20th Street, and west of 12th Street.

Acquisition Information

The Walnut Way Conservation Corp. presented this collection to the Archives in September 2002 (accession 2002-032). Additional material was donated in January and December 2004 (accessions 2003-049 and 2004-037, respectively), and April 2005 (accession 2004-055). Additional materials were donated by Cheryl Ajirotutu in October 2008 (2008-025) and by Gregory Jay in May 2009 (2008-060). Cheryl Ajirotutu donated some additional items for the collection in December 2009 (accession 2009-028), March 2010 (2009-053), and October 2010 (2010-027).

Processing Information

Christel Maass processed the collection in November 2002. Michael Doylen processed additions to the collection in April 2005 and May 2008. Matt Shoemaker processed accessions 2008-025 and 2008-060 in May 2009 (Christel Maass supervised). Christel Maass added accession 2009-028 to the collection in December 2009, 2009-053 to the collection in March 2010, and 2010-027 in October 2010. Christel Maass added a few items removed from the Growing Power records (accession 2018-017) to the collection in December 2018.
