Abstract:
A collection of photographs (both negatives and prints) taken by Claude Schumacher on Milwaukee's east side after the cleanup from the record-setting late January 1947 snowstorm had begun. Many of the images were made around the 2600 block of Downer Avenue, in the vicinity where Schumacher operated Claude's Bike Shop. Other images were shot outside Schumacher's residence, located in the 2000 block of Menlo Boulevard.

Biography/History

Claude Schumacher (1903-1980) operated Claude's Bike Shop on North Downer Avenue in Milwaukee from 1933 until 1966.

Arrangement of the Materials

The prints are located in box 1. The safety film negatives are housed with other safety film negatives.

Acquisition Information

Matt Blessing, grandson of Claude Schumacher, donated the negatives to the Archives in June 2002 (accession 2001-118).


Processing Information

Christel Maass had prints made from the negatives and processed the collection in June 2002.

In September 2011, Bob Jaeger removed 12 safety film negatives from the collection and placed them with other safety film negatives.
