Scope and Content Note

Papers of three related families, with some information on other extended relatives, mostly from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Includes family correspondence, usually discussing personal affairs, of Judge Charles Aarons, Lehman (Buz) Aarons, Louise Aarons Blosten, Matilda Jung, and other relatives; scrapbooks documenting the life of Matilda Aarons Jung and Rose Sheuerman Aarons; family histories for the Aarons, Frankel, Jung, Schram, and Sheuerman families; and photographs and photograph albums of the Aarons and Jung families. The papers were compiled by Matilda Jung.

The papers of Charles L. Aarons, a former Milwaukee judge include correspondence with his family and his wife Rose Sheuerman Aarons; and a number of photographs of himself, his brothers and sisters, his nieces, nephews, and his children Matilda, Lehman, and Louise. There is very little information on his professional career except for a few campaign handouts and newsclippings.

The correspondence of Lehman C. (Buz) Aarons is to and from his family concerning personal matters and his jobs at the U.S. Treasury Department and Farm Credit Administration in Washington, D.C.

The papers of Louise Aarons Blosten include personal correspondence with her family, published articles and short stories that appeared in newspapers and magazines, and several unpublished works.

The papers of Clarence Jung include personal correspondence with family and friends, undated poetry, and information on the 1966 world tour he took with Matilda. There is no information on his ornithological interests.

The papers of Matilda Jung include her baby and bridal books, diaries, family correspondence, incoming letters from friends, memorabilia, a memory book, and her Wellesley College scrapbook. The family correspondence and letters from friends deal almost exclusively with personal matters.

The records of the Aarons-Marks Clothing Company include a list of the original shareholders, minutes of the organizers' meeting, by-laws, minutes of meetings, and the resolution dissolving the company.

Arrangement of the Materials

The collection is arranged into textual documents--including diaries, letters, and family histories (boxes 1-2, 6)--and photographs and photo albums (boxes 3-5 and 7 and oversize folder 1). The files are organized largely in Matilda Jung's original order. Whenever possible, the materials are arranged by the name of the family member who created or them. In some cases, the files consist of letters from a variety of family members or friends.

Women are listed, whenever possible, by their married names.

Acquisition Information

Louise J. Elbaum donated the collection to the Archives on 13 June 1992. The Milwaukee Public Museum transferred two folders of Clarence Jung materials on 11 August 1992.

Processing Information

Maria Waupochick, Timothy Spindler, and Mark A. Vargas processed the collection at the Archives in July 1992 through April 1993.

Preservation Information

The archives staff photocopied four Aarons family photograph albums and one of Clarence Jung because the original albums were in very poor physical condition. After photocopying, the photographs were removed, and each one was sequentially numbered, as was the original location in the photocopied albums. The 1904 correspondence between Charles Aarons and Rose Sheuerman was photocopied and the originals were returned to the donors in accordance with the donor agreement.

In 2012, staff interleaved the scrapbook in Box 7 with buffered tissued paper, and reboxed.
