Administrative records of the Sailing Club at UWM. Financial
records include files on budgets, fleet captain's expenses, and segregated fees. Also
contains minutes of the general membership and executive board meetings; correspondence
pertaining to donations to the club; and the clubs's monthly newsletter, The Masthead. Other records include the club's constitution,
bylaws, and rules; articles of incorporation; membership lists; an inventory of fleet
vessels; and paper copies of electronic bulletin board messages.

Biography/History
The Sailing Club at UWM evolved from the Spinnakers Sailing Club, established at UWM in
1968. By the 1970s, the organization had adopted its current name. The Sailing Club at UWM
incorporated with the State of Wisconsin in 1982. The club is a non-profit, cooperative
student organization, open to all UWM students, faculty, alumni, and UWM Union members for a
membership fee. The goal of the Sailing Club is to provide safe sailing instruction, and
offers a "for credit" sailing course. The club's vessels are owned by the University of
Wisconsin System and leased to the club for a nominal fee.
Arrangement of the Materials
This collection was received in, and is organized in, multiple parts. Additional materials
have not been physically or intellectually arranged and interfiled, and researchers may need
to consult more than one part of the collection to locate similar materials.
The collection contains four additional accessions.

There are no access restrictions on the materials, and the collection is open to all
members of the public in accordance with state law.
The researcher assumes full responsibility for conforming with the laws of libel,
privacy, and copyright which may be involved in the use of this collection (Wisconsin
Statutes 19.21-19.39).
The Sailing Club faculty advisor donated records to the Archives in February 1987 (no
accession number assigned) and February 2007 (accession 2006-068 and retrospectively
covering accessions 1992-010, 1996-018, 1997-022, 1997-057, 2002-094, 2004-025). Norm
Lasca donated additional records in March 2009 (accession 2008-055). Secretary Cal
McIntyre donated additional materials in January 2008 (accessions 2007-031 and 2007-034).
The Sailing Club donated additional materials in December 2009 (accession 2009-026).
Secretary Diane Dagelen donated additional materials in September 2012 (accession
2012-021).
Tom Hall began processing the collection at the Archives in November-December 1992 as
part of a project in the Modern Archives Administration course. Mark A. Vargas completed
the processing in December 1993. Rachel Arndt processed accessions 1996-018, 1997-022,
1997-057, 2002-094, 2004-025, and 2006-068 in September 2007 (boxes 2-3). Shukrani Gray
(supervised by Christel Maass) processed materials from accession 2008-055 in July 2012.
Hayley Jackson updated the finding aid to include information about accessions 2007-031,
2007-034, 2009-026, and 2012-021 in August 2013.
